Why photographs get rejected for OCI Card
- Non-square image — Passport Seva rejects anything not 1:1
- Face not covering 70–80% of the frame
- Photograph older than the last three months
- Shadows on the face or background from off-centre lighting
- Coloured, patterned or non-white background
Frequently asked questions
Does the passport photo have to be exactly square?
Yes — Passport Seva Kendra validates a strict 1:1 ratio. This preset locks the crop frame to a square so the upload cannot be rejected for that reason.
Does this tool upload my photo anywhere?
No. Cropping, resizing and compression all run inside your browser using the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
