Where these figures come from
The 3.5 cm × 2.5 cm photograph NSDL and UTIITSL PAN applications specify — a different ratio from the standard 3.5 × 4.5 cm passport photo.
Why photographs get rejected for PAN Card
- Standard 3.5 × 4.5 cm passport photo uploaded instead of the 3.5 × 2.5 cm PAN ratio
- Photograph over one year old
- Face not looking directly at the camera
- Colour photograph on textured or dark background
- File exceeding the portal upload cap
Frequently asked questions
Is the PAN card photo the same size as a passport photo?
No — PAN applications use 3.5 × 2.5 cm, wider and shorter than the 3.5 × 4.5 cm used by SSC, UPSC and most exam forms. Uploading the wrong ratio is a common rejection reason.
Does this tool upload my photo anywhere?
No. Cropping, resizing and compression all run inside your browser using the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
